As an economist at the Economics and Markets unit, I: - Provide guidance and support to country operations on how to provide cash and food assistance in contexts of economic volatility including how to adjust programs as needed. - Develop and disseminate corporate policy and guidance for operating in contexts of economic volatility. - Provide support to country operations for the development of contingency plans and response plans in contexts of economic volatility, including when there is inflation, depreciation, and liquidity issues, among others. - Facilitate and advice on WFP's engagements with Central Banks and other regulatory institutions for scaling the impact that WFP's cash transfers have on digital financial inclusion and women's economic empowerment. - Build partnerships in the economic and regulatory ecosystem including donors, International Financial Institutions and others. - Provide guidance and support on cost efficiency analysis.
As part of the Office of the Executive Director, the Bottom-Up Strategic Budgeting Exercise I was part of aimed at aligning funding sources to the organization's priorities while creating a new framework for corporate planning. The project included in-depth analysis of the recurring program support and business operations requirements as well as a review of the current funding sources and mechanisms for funding allocation. As a consultant for the project, some of my main tasks and responsibilities were: - Analysis and development of insights for senior leadership with the aim of issuing recommendations for the Executive Director. - Presentation to senior audiences of insights and tools developed for the exercise. - Project management support, including managing project plans and development of material on project developments. - Engagement with the Regional Bureaux and Headquarter divisions to ensure consistent planning and budgeting approaches.
Working for the International Policy Analysis and the External Developments division, my main tasks and responsibilities were: - Economic and financial analysis for reports and policy notes on international economic and financial issues, including analysis on currencies, bonds, and derivatives markets. - Monitoring of global financial stability risks and drafting of policy notes. - Collaboration in the making of presentations and notes for the Board and Governing Council. - Drafting of occasional notes to the Board on topics of interests as developments in emerging countries and on financial risk assessments. - Development of an economic crisis prediction model for emerging market economies. - Modeling and programming for different projects, including factor models, VARs, and machine learning techniques. - Development of a weekly Covid-19 monitor containing novel analysis every week and disseminated broadly within the central bank, the Board, and other central banks in the euro area. - Contribution to the global and country-specific economic forecasts and forecast error analysis to improve the models. - Development of automatized spreadsheets and dashboards for the monitoring of the global economy including country specific indicators.
As an economic and financial advisor to the General Director, my main responsibilities were: - Lead on the economic analysis for the Investment and Trade Promotion Agency, leading a team of 2. - Strategy design, advise to the General Director and prioritization of projects. - Macroeconomic and financial market analysis for the elaboration of reports and presentations for private investors. - Feasibility, impact analysis and financial valuation of public-private investment projects. - Economic analysis of policy advocacy initiatives, for example quantifying the possible impact of a given measure. - Joint work with the Central Bank of Argentina to develop a methodology for calculating sub-national international investment and trade statistics. - High level presentations on the economic situation and investment opportunities for relevant actors as investment funds, foreign governments and the head of the government.
