I'm Program Manager for the Planetary Computer at Microsoft, and I'm on a mission to help unlock the full potential of spaceborne data to create a more sustainable future. Today over 5,000 satellites orbit our planet collecting terabytes of data every day. However, most people still cannot access the lifesaving, market-moving, and policy-shifting insights contained in this data. If we want to realize spaceborne data’s full potential, I believe we need to empower a new generation of data scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs to channel these spaceborne insights into new tools and services that enable all of us to create a more sustainable future. As part of the Azure Space team, I focus on making it easier to develop and deploy analytics on a planetary scale accelerating the adoption and use of spaceborne data across numerous industries. In my current role, I help develop products that empower our customers to extract and use insights from earth observation data using the power of the cloud. This work builds on my decade of experience helping organizations overcome their greatest analytic challenges. Prior to joining Microsoft, I had the opportunity to work directly with the United Nations, numerous national governments, Oxford and Stanford Universities, Google, Deloitte, and others on issues ranging from disaster management to polio eradication. Senior Technical Program Manager on Microsoft’s Azure Space team focused on building digital infrastructure for planet Earth. Currently PM for Microsoft’s Planetary Computer, our 50 PB cross-domain geospatial data platform that allows users to leverage the power of the cloud to accelerate environmental sustainability and Earth science.
Senior Data Scientist within Azure Space focused on building deep learning powered intelligent tools and end-to-end solutions for our customers. Partner with program management and product teams on all aspects of the design, development and delivery of deep learning enabled solutions, including problem definition, data acquisition, exploration, training, testing and evaluating deep learning & AI models. Create and embed models in end-to-end pipelines and solutions in production on Azure.
Adjunct professor for PPOL 563 (Data Visualization for Data Science) at Georgetown’s McCourt School of Public Policy. Course covers a range of topics including: human perception, data visualization theory, 50+ visualization types, data storytelling, and the evaluation of data visualizations. Technologies taught during the course include: Github, R (ggplot2), R Shiny, Python (Matplotlib, Bokeh & Altair), Plotly, and D3.js.
Founding member of Visionist’s Data Science Team. Defined and implemented a data science strategy that enabled us to grow our team to include six data scientists that support multiple contracts. Led team to win multiple high-profile analytic challenges including the Department of Health and Human Services Opioid Code-a-thon and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence XTEND: Machine Evaluation of Analytic Products Challenge. Responsibilities include: • Work directly with customers to develop cutting edge analytics to derive insights from large datasets • Focus areas include: clustering, topic modeling, time series analysis, forecasting, and data visualization/reporting • Developed dozens of analytics to extract, analyze, and summarize large volumes of unstructured data using machine learning methods • Create analytics in Python to be deployed on cloud architectures and engineered pipelines to perform such analyses on a repeated basis • Train customers on the use of APIs, exploratory data analysis, graph analytics, geospatial analysis, and data visualization
