My Master’s thesis for ABB is about the process control system in Control Rooms based on cognitive ergonomics theory and multiple study trips in two countries. The main goal was to develop concepts and test them with operators to enhance their efficiency and to improve the workflow visualization in the process industry (Oil & Gas, Power Plant) to support global situation awareness and a better decision-making. Product Development Plan: 1. Literature Study about Cognitive Ergonomics, Control Room and information design 2. Study Visits & Identification of User Needs: Data gathering with operators from Denmark and Sweden 3. Requirements Definition 4. User Scenario Definition 5. Idea Generation: Brainstorming for designing concepts 6. Idea Elimination 7. Concept Development and Implementation: Visual Design with Adobe Illustrator CS5 8. Test & Evaluation with real users Keywords: Ergonomics, Human Factors, Human Machine Interaction (HMI), Interaction Design, Visualization, Situation Awareness, Decision-making
