I am honored to be the current Executive Director of the Frank H. Hiscock Legal Aid Society (HLA), where I have spent my entire professional career since joining as an intern in 2010. I believe strongly in the work and mission of HLA, and in pursuing justice and equality for all. I have a steadfast commitment to empowering the underprivileged and marginalized through access to legal services. • Oversee the Civil Program, consisting of the following practice areas: matrimonial/domestic violence, immigration, foreclosure defense, landlord/tenant, and unemployment insurance benefits. • Develop and implement training and procedures in those areas so that we are able to maintain a high standard of practice and best serve our clients. • Participate in office-wide decision-making as part of the office Management Team.
• Provided holistic legal services to clients involved in delinquency cases in DeKalb County Juvenile Court. • Conducted client interviews, drafted and served subpoenas, investigated charges, drafted and filed motions, compiled witness lists and attended Individualized Education Program meetings. • Represented clients at multiple hearings, which included presenting both opening statements and closing arguments, as well as conducting direct and cross examinations of witnesses.
• Researched and drafted documents relating to the Georgia Juvenile Code revision project. • Attended and participated in numerous government meetings, including state legislature committee meetings, agency board meetings and agency meetings regarding proposed rule changes.
• Advocated on behalf of abused and neglected children in Fulton County Juvenile Court, with a focus on cases before the Fulton County Family Drug Court. • Helped train pro bono attorneys in the nuances of the juvenile court process and counseled them throughout their cases, including assisting with investigation and presentation of cases before juvenile court judges.
• Assisted with litigation matters, including drafting interrogatories, production of document requests, power of attorney forms, promissory notes, settlement demands and other legal documents. • Researched legal issues in the area of medical malpractice, commercial litigation and consumer fraud.
