As a "Student Language Ambassador", I work as a member of a larger group of Wales wide university students who promote the importance of modern language learning and the benefits of taking a modern language as a GCSE subject. The outreach aspect of this programme is predominantly led by undergraduate modern language students, but due to my personal passion for language learning I was asked to participate to bring a scientific angle to the project. Working individually or in small groups, I visit secondary schools across North Wales, giving talks, classes and science shows (through the medium of English, Welsh and Catalan) to demonstrate how modern languages can be an invaluable tool in an ever more global world. Through this job, I have also attended a number of North Wales wide events, such as "STEM/MFL North Wales"; promoting languages in science.
