Created in August 2020 to reduce the persistent racial wealth gap, the NBA Foundation is the league’s first-ever charitable foundation dedicated to driving economic opportunity for Black youth. The NBA Board of Governors representing all 30 teams announced that it will contribute $300 million ($30M per year) over 10 years in initial funding. I oversee the NBA's Player Development Department -- my primary responsibility is to lead a team of professionals to design and implement education, training and support programs that prepare each player to successfully navigate life in the NBA.
Provided overall executive leadership to a start up foundation dedicated to educating children in Newark, NJ. Secured a progressive new teacher contract that connected teacher performance to student achievement; established 7 new school options for children; and invested in teacher-led, classroom based innovation.
Primary responsibilities included investing in innovative education and learning initiatives throughout the country. Designed and implemented the foundation's signature Early Childhood Education program; created cutting edge programming that connected out of school and out of work young adults to education and employment opportunities; and led placed-based programming throughout Mississippi.
Primary responsibilities included identifying, cultivating and investing in youth development, education, community-building and affordable housing initiatives in Washington, DC.
Provided executive level leadership at a grassroots education, youth development and community-building organization working in some of Washington, DC' most under-resourced communities.
