The key skills I have developed through my wide ranging career are around innovation and positive disruption in the areas of Education, Football and Health and Wellbeing. I believe all organisations should continually challenge their strategy and practices and the three areas mentioned above provide enormous scope for improved performance and delivery. Currently, I am most excited by the benefits Football can gain from incorporating Brain Health into everyday practice for players, coaches and match officials. I am currently collaborating with Neuroplasticity guru, Dr Michael Merzenich, and John Bishop, my fellow Director at Evolve to develop my concept titled FOOTBALLING BRAINS. Maximising Brain Health and Brain Function can transform Football in the areas of Performance and Welfare.
Improving Brain Health and Cognitive Function will play a transformational role in Education and Sport, and Football in particular, in the future. The major stakeholders in Football (The Football Association, The Premier League, The English Football League and the Professional Footballer's Association), have recently published a document introducing some focus to Brain Health in English Football. The report gives much focus to research into concussion and heading the ball as well as looking to support ex-players suffering from Alzheimer's. This report is most welcome but Brain Health has far more to offer Football - particularly in the areas of Performance and Player Welfare. FOOTBALLING BRAINS will pioneer Mentored Brain Training and bring together extensive peer-reviewed science and proven practical delivery to add a new dimension to the game. Evolve a Social Impact Company is a new Social Enterprise that has been created specifically to deliver the award winning Project HE:RO - Health Engagement: Real Outcomes, provides an innovative method to improve the health, wellbeing and performance of children - while improving the attendance and attainment of young people.
Project HE:RO is an innovative, upstream preventative intervention to support the health and wellbeing of young children. Extensive trials also show HERO impacts positively on attendance and attainment levels in primary school pupils and could play much wider benefits for society at large.
