About

Now that I've completed my years of undergrad, I ask myself this question constantly: what are you going to do in the future? When I was in high school, I realized I had a knack for writing. I could see myself writing books, telling one adventure after the other about a young and spunky heroine, who has a difficult time letting people into her life. During my junior year of high school as I worked on my first book, I realized just how much of an impact I could make with just my words. I was inspired in 2018 by the books about the experiences of young African American girls that poured into bookstores. It was like some kind of national movement for black girls everywhere, giving us a voice and motivation to be brave just like the heroines. I felt truly inspired during this new era of girlhood, but something was missing. Some books were works of fiction, and others were based on true events, but I couldn’t recall a single one that dove into the aspects of fantasy, action, and other genres. The books were definitely needed for my generation and beyond, but for people like me, a girl who grew up on the books of Percy Jackson and those of Gail Carson Levine, I wanted a wider variety. I wanted to create books that had similar aspects to such popular novels, but ones that girls of color could envision themselves in without having to change the character’s physical description because the features were already there. It seemed important to me to give young girls a fantastical story, while also dealing with personal issues that I knew more and more of us face each day. Thus, began my journey into the art of writing. I have written several drafts and short stories in the fantasy and historical fiction genres, but have also recently begun to take interest in romance as well. I have received my Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing degree as of May 2025. My aspiration is to pursue a career as an author and editor. I have skills in imagination, storytelling, character development, world-building, plotting, editing, research and writing skills. I have previously worked in my college's Writing Center for three years, helping students build their writing skills and their confidence.
