Giovanni Nappi

Technical Director at DNV

Copenhagen Metropolitan Area

About

Since 2007, I have pursued my passion for cleaner energy with an international career that blends commercial leadership, technical expertise, and global perspective. After completing my Mechanical Engineering degree in Italy, I left home with two suitcases to join the wind industry in Denmark, and later embraced a new adventure in China as Country Manager for Renewables Certification Greater China. Over the past nearly 20 years, I have worked across the full spectrum of wind power certification and design. I began as a Design Engineer at Siemens, then joined DNV Copenhagen as Senior Engineer and Project Manager, where I led type certification and joint industry projects. In China, I managed P&L responsibilities, business development, and customer partnerships, before stepping into my current role as Technical Director at DNV, leading engineering teams, driving strategic sales, and developing tailored certification services. I am recognized in the industry for my expertise in fatigue design, S–N curve validation, bolted connection technology, and FEM analysis. I have authored and contributed to key industry standards — as lead author of DNV-SE-0263, co-author of DNV-ST-0361, contributor to DNV-ST-0126, and committee member on several IEC 61400 standards. To complement my technical foundation, I completed executive education at INSEAD (Leading Digital Transformation and Business Strategy & Financial Performance, both with distinction) and hold advanced certification in Structural Integrity Assessment.
