During my time at Damen Services - Special Projects I delivered several large conversion and retrofit project. All these projects where executed at the customer location so close cooperation with the customer, local contractors and shipyards where a requirement to success. Several examples: - Retrofit of a Veem VG1000 Gyro stabilizer on a FCS5009. See project video: https://vimeo.com/588255022 - Conversion of a vessel from DP1 to DP2 with open bus tie. Including upgrade of generators, MSB, DP system. - Redesign and replacement of a large chilled water plant (2x350 kW Cooling capacity) at customer location in the middle east. - Large modifications to the underwater ship of an aluminum ferry to improve the draft of the vessel.
In this role I especially enjoyed working in a small regional service team representing Damen Services for Australia and New Zealand. In this region multiple Damen built vessels are delivered and operational for which I performed broad variety tasks and projects to take care of the aftersales service. Main activities encountered in this position where; ship delivery including re-flagging, compliance with local class and flag state requirements; warranty and technical support; sales and execution of repair and conversion projects; setting up of custom support program for a ship operator.
Within the function Project Engineer I was responsible for handling the warranty projects for the vessels sold in the region Asia Pacific. The function included technical assessment of the received warranty claims, communication with the customer, organization of engineers, materials and cost control. Product feedback regarding design issues and improvement to the organization where also part of the function. During the function I handled warranty projects in, Vietnam, Indonesia, South Korea, Australia and Maldives.
In the function of project engineer I performed several guaranty projects within our department “Parts and Services Guaranty”. Our department supports customers during the guaranty period of one year for the P&S products on board of the dredging vessel. During this period we try to support customers intermediately in case of a failure with P&S equipment and provide a solution that prevents a similar breakdown in the future, but within the most cost efficient manner for IHC Merwede. As project engineer I was responsible for the complete project from beginning till the end. In some cases this included also performing the repair jobs abroad.
