An engineer with 30-years experience as a business manager, project manager and project director in the mining and professional services’ industries holding strategic leadership roles responsible for the development of high revenue regional, national and global key client accounts in addition to senior management (business, engineering and program/portfolio) roles for the development, growth and daily management of multi-million dollar business units. My career involved senior business and project leadership roles ranging from investigation, design, construction, and project management with lead/director roles on significant infrastructure and multi-disciplinary resource projects including non-process infrastructure mega projects, large remote accommodation projects, water distribution and water management systems to mines and remote communities. I have worked in a diverse range of countries and communities such as Australia, Mozambique, Botswana, Nigeria, Zambia, Angola, Chile, Canada and South Africa. I am an accomplished general manager, key client account manager, multi-disciplinary project manager and project director with extensive and international consulting practice management experience.
Mid-career sabbatical to advance my general and practical business management knowledge, skills and insights through targeted post-graduate education and research. Coursework completed included: Project Management, Marketing Management, Strategic Human Resources Management, Operations Management, Leadership, Financial Management, Strategic Management, Corporate Governance, Managing People in a Global Context, Business to Business Marketing and Managing Change. My MBA research project was focused on organisational strategy implementation and execution for a major global engineering services and projects organisation. Upon completion of my MBA study I also finalised a Masters of Project Management to round out a comprehensicce mid-career educational refresh.
Lead the identification and development of small to large revenue opportunities, develop an appropriate pursuit strategy for each, track each opportunity, build/facilitate the building of relationships with key client targets, secure the opportunity to pre-qualify and tender, develop a strategy-to-win for each opportunity, lead the tender documentation development phase including scope development/clarification, pricing, resourcing, scheduling, etc. to secure each opportunity for GHD in close collaboration with local /regional GHD management and project leadership. Identify GHD's commercial, legal, technical, staffing and general risks and develop appropriate mitigations. Brief and obtain GHD Executive Management Team approval to pursue and submit each tender. Successful strategy-to-win and opportunity pursuit examples include: - BHP Billiton Iron Ore EPCM Contract (5-year term) managing a $3.6Bn program of works including Jimblebar Mine Non-process Infrastructure full EPCM - BHP Billiton Iron Ore Port Hedland Tug Boat Harbour Selection and Definition Phase Project - BHP Billiton Iron Ore Sustaining Capital Projects Contract (5-year term) delivering in excess of 200 projects/yr. Successfully renegotiated in 2014 - Olympic Dam Level 2, 3 & 4 projects delivery contract (5-year term) Development of pursuit strategies for international opportunities with BHP Billiton and Codelco: - Potash: establishing high level relationships with BHPB's Canadian based project leadership at Vice-President level, identify opportunities - Copper: establishing high level relationships with BHPB's Chile based Escondida leadership, identify opportunities and develop a pursuit strategy with a particular focus on securing a term contract for sustaining and operational capital - Codelco (Chile): support the development of and provide key strategy input to secure a sole source selection and definition phase contract for the development of all engineering projects (3-year term contract)

Identify GHD's commercial, legal, technical, staffing and general risks and develop appropriate mitigations. Brief and obtain GHD State Management/Executive Management Team approval, as appropriate, to pursue and submit each tender. Successful opportunity pursuit examples include: - BHP Billiton Iron Ore Sustaining Capital Projects Contract; leading to the delivery of more than 400 sustaining capital engineering and environmental projects between 2012 and 2015 under this contract.
Provide coaching and advise on how to structure and win tenders to opportunity pursuit team leadership across all engineering, architectural and environmental opportunities for all fee projects > $100k to multi-million dollar fee opportunities, ensure maintenance of GHD's risk profile through the careful analysis and interpretation of identified risks and mitigation measures, advise/approve the use of appropriate tender terms and conditions, ensure the inclusion of appropriate project and technical leadership for each opportunity, assist with resourcing, drive the clarification of scope and the minimization of deliverables, review pricing and pricing methodologies, provide approval within limits of authority and assist with obtaining higher level organisational approvals as appropriate to enable pursuit/submission of Requests for Proposals/Tenders.
