During my time at Land Rover BAR I have worked alongside yacht designers and systems engineers, using a variety of different software and equipment to help improve the yachts performance. As well as developing a tool to visualise and improve wing trim using Matlab, I have also advanced my understanding of many other areas, including CFD correlation, large scale wind tunnel testing, material tests for the wing covering material and installation and testing of various sensors and hydraulic pumps, and have also been involved in the analysis of this data.
I was given the opportunity to sail this 140ft schooner twice across the Atlantic and through Panama into the Pacific, competing and coming 3rd overall (1st in class) in the Transatlantic race from Newport, as well as trimming the foresail on the owners smaller race yacht 'Kelpie' in the Mediterranean.
