I had the honour of passing recruitment and training for Officer Commission in His Majesty’s Royal Navy Reserves. I have always wanted to serve in the military in some capacity, and this experience allowed me to test myself physically and mentally, and show that I was capable of serving in the Armed Forces. Throughout my time I gained exposure to general seamanship along side more specialised tactical training. Although an unforgettable experience, it was a tough decision to leave my training as I discovered, as all should, that I was on a different professional path.
My role included: - Management of freight container shipments out of Eastern regions: China (Shaghai, Yantian, Shenzhen, Ningbo), Sri Lanka, India, Turkey, Morocco and more, to the UK, Germany and US/Canada. - Analysis of current sea and air freight rates along with lead times (provided by multiple Freight forwarders for comparison) - approving most cost effective & fastest passages to ship. Ensuring regular updates are logged and communicated to my wider team. - Handling and approval of Customs docs, BoL's, Packing lists and Commercial invoicing. approving payments with Accounts according to incoterms. - Consistent communication and management of freight forwarders in Germany and the UK. - Problem solving, whether this be missing product or shipment delay issues - I will find efficient and productive solutions and communicate this accordingly (examples upon request).
