Highlights have included: - written and oral language support during a pre-M&A Due Diligence investigation on behalf of a major FTSE100 client - translation of a book on the evolution of Shanghainese architecture. - translation of Shanghai Gentlemen (by Cheng Naishan), a collection of biographies of men who lived in Shanghai during the Republican (pre-1949) era. Other assignments have spanned contemporary art, finance, marketing, gemstones and urban planning, involving translation companies and direct clients such as HSBC, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, IDEO, Ogilvy & Mather, and ZTE. I have also worked with local government in Shanghai and Jiangsu Province. I work regularly with contemporary art galleries in Shanghai and around China, including the Power Station of Art (PSA), China Academy of Art, MABSOCIETY, Rockbund Art Museum, and AMNUA on a plethora of different exhibitions covering textiles, photography, video, and architecture.

  • Founder at Kungfu English
    Dec 2014 - Present · 11 yrs 7 mos

Kungfu English is my public account on instant messaging service WeChat. I share my own translations of ancient Chinese tales of lone wanderers, mysterious monks and their adventures. The 'Wuxia' genre of literature features stories akin to Dumas or Sir Walter Scott novels - but with the added fun of kung-fu and endless intrigues involving various schools of the martial arts all vying for mastery of China. The account is accessible on WeChat in the Public Accounts area, listed as 论武侠习英语 or kungfu-english. Alternatively, scan the QR code below.
