Geoff Triggs merged his successful building code/fire safety consulting business with SenezCo., a well-respected building and fire science company located in Delta, BC, and joined them as a Senior Consultant - Canada West Regional Leader effective October, 2023. Since then, Geoff has transitioned into retirement and other pursuits in life as of the end of 2024. Geoff had actively worked as a professional building code and fire protection consultant in various capacities in the design/construction industry for over 38 years, during which he accumulated an extensive array of experience on all building types. Geoff's interpersonal/collaborative skills and diverse consulting background were an asset towards assisting owners/developers, architects, designers and engineering consultants to find the best solutions for complex building design issues addressing the applicable building design, construction and code/fire safety requirements. Geoff’s personal goal in design consulting is to help deliver the architectural design intent/vision through collaboration and innovation with the project participants. Geoff acknowledges that we live, work and play on the unceded and traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples – sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) nations.

    Geoff Triggs merged his successful building code/fire safety consulting firm with the well-respected consulting practice of Senez Co. as of October 3rd, 2023. Geoff brought a myriad of experience, history and projects to the Senez Co team, and provided both technical management services and business development insights to the diverse Senez Co office teams and their service offerings on current and future projects. Geoff is now retired from active consulting work and is looking forward to pursuing other passions and play in the wonderful world that we live in. Specialties: Existing building assessments and reviews – particularly commercial and heritage/historic buildings. Complex multi-purpose or mixed-use type projects, transit/transportation projects, residential/resort and recreation/sport venues. A wood-frame and timber building code specialist with respect to fire protection and life safety requirements for buildings of combustible construction, or noncombustible construction (via alternative solutions).

    Evolution Building Science Ltd. (EBSL) specialized in building code/fire safety consulting for new and existing buildings, innovative projects and wood building design. Geoff Triggs formed EBSL in January 2016, to continue to service the design/construction industry and maintain the professional relationships that he has developed with many clients over the past 30 years. This consulting practice focused on creative and innovative engineering solutions for a myriad of design and construction issues, through competent and effective building code consulting, development of alternative solution submittals, and facilitation of the required approvals/permits critical for all projects. EBSL focused on small to medium-sized projects and primarily serviced the Sea-to-Sky corridor and the North Shore of Vancouver. Geoff has merged this firm with SenezCo., as of October, 2023, and thanks all of our past clients for their business and excellent working relationships over the past 7 years!

      Geoff was involved in all aspects of the company operations and led/managed a number of large complex building design and construction projects within Vancouver and other municipalities around BC (refer to partial list of projects below).       During this period, Geoff applied to EGBC (formerly APEGBC) for licensing under the “limited license” program, which permits qualified individuals to function as engineers in a specific scope of practice (i.e. building code and fire protection consulting). Geoff was the first individual in BC to obtain a professional limited engineer license (P.L.Eng.) certification for building/fire code consulting, and has since advised other individuals in obtaining their P.L.Eng. license in other disciplines.

    Geoff joined Protection Engineering in 1989 to further his career in fire protection design, building code consulting and similar building and public safety consulting services for the design and construction industry. During his time at Protection Engineering, Geoff attended the City of Vancouver Certified Professional programme at UBC, and passed the challenging CP exam on the first sitting. After that time, Geoff has consulted on numerous projects conducted under the CP programme offered in the City of Vancouver and elsewhere (an alternative Building Permit review process).

    After graduating from BCIT in 1986, Geoff obtained his first full time employment with the IAO which was the major advisory organization for insurance companies across Canada at the time, where he was first exposed to and trained in the fundamentals of building surveys, fire protection reviews, FUS fire flow calculations, hydraulic design for water supplies/sprinkler systems, loss prevention, crime/security reviews and public liability issues for the insurance industry. This included attendance at and completion of the comprehensive IAO School of Loss Control Technology in Toronto, Ontario on the campus of Underwriters' Laboratories of Canada (the nations leading product evaluation and testing centre).
