I have extensive PMO/Portfolio Office skills and expertise. I specialise in the setting up Portfolio Management and PMO functions from scratch and have experience of doing this within a number of different industries. My main areas of expertise are the definition and implementation of project prioritisation, benefits management and PMO processes. The processes I implement are initially focussed on ensuring the organisations I work for are ‘doing the right things’ by collating key information that will provide clarity to senior management and the wider audience with regards to the collection of change initiatives and how these initiatives will deliver the greatest contribution to the strategic objectives. Secondly, the processes I implement ensure that projects are delivered using best practice and controls; and finally the processes ensure the smooth delivery of business benefits and their realisation.
I own, drive and maintain centralised portfolio management and project reporting processes, controls and governance keeping all PMO reporting and activity on time, every time, while identifying and resolving pan-easyJet interdependencies and improving process efficiency where possible. I drive the change portfolio management activity and inform project prioritisation and dependency reviews.
I currently work for tesco.com in a Portfolio Management function. I am accountable for ensuring the General Merchandise Online programme effectively defines; communicates and delivers scope aligned with the highest priority business objectives and outcomes and that the associated benefits are tracked and realised. My main responsibilities include: - - Idea Management - Developing and managing the process for defining and submitting new initiatives for the programme. - Project Prioritisation - Developing and implementing an objective and robust approach to facilitating business prioritisation. - Business Case - Supporting the development, communication and update of the overall programme business case. - Financial Planning - Supporting the business annual planning process to develop the ‘ask’ for the following year’s capital request for the programme. - Benefits Management - Developing, implementing and managing the benefits management / realisation approach for the programme to proactively track report and initiate programme actions which maximise benefit delivery and return on investment.
Setting up a new PMO and introducing a new governance framework to be used by all projects across the organisation. I was responsible for defining and establishing the Benefits Management and Project prioritisation processes and ensuring these were not only fit for purpose but ‘best of breed’ before the PMO and governance framework went into live operation.
I worked as the Benefits Management Lead on HMRC’s BusinessLink.Gov Programme (www.businesslink.gov.uk). The businesslink.gov Programme was set up to deliver the Transformational Government agenda with respect to businesses. My role ensured that all of the activities planned to take place linked directly to the strategic goals and benefits of the Programme as a whole, as well as ensuring that the Programme’s benefits were stated in a compelling but achievable way. I was responsible for developing and implementing the benefits management strategy for the whole of the programme
Working within the Ministry of Justice my role provided the portfolio management capability (management of portfolio prioritisation, funding allocations, reporting to ministerial level and Investment Appraisals of project business cases) for ~20 multi-million pound projects in the criminal justice IT area.
