Hello! I’m Gabrielle, a Biomedical Science student at Singapore Polytechnic with a passion to study of the life that builds the core foundations of what we know and how we live. I am eager to contribute to meaningful research believe that I would fit right in to any research team. I believe no living thing should be ignored, so if given the opportunities, I want to have a career in animal research and conservation. Through supervised experiments, I have been equipped with skills that are fundamental in any life-science research lab. In gene cloning, I was taught the importance of genetic engineering, as well as how it is carried out through PCR runs, involving DNA ligation and transformation. I am well-versed in cellular processes and methods, including the Western Blot, ELISA, gel electrophoresis, bacterial and mammalian cell cultures. Combined with a love for animals, I aim to use these skills to improve animal health and understanding through field and lab research. I actively volunteer in my church as a switcher, camera operator and occasional videographer. I am a core member of my youth group, given responsibilities to reach out to newer teenagers, plan weekly sessions and do anything to ensure they run smoothly. It was a huge step out of my comfort zone, but with proper mentorship and guidance, I adapted quickly and picked up the necessary skills needed for my role. I am outgoing by nature, driven by curiosity, confidence and compassion. I learn quickly and can think on my. While I may not be the smartest or most intelligent, I am persistent; willing to try, without compromising quality no matter the task. As Louisa May Alcott wrote in Little Women: “Watch and pray, never get tired of trying, and never think it is impossible to conquer your fault.”
