Hello, my name is Frederic W. Hawes VI, but I go by Deric. I am a party chief at Butler Surveying in Chehalis. It is a long journey to become a licensed surveyor but you have to start somewhere.
As a Crew Lead at Gibbs & Olson, I coordinate and execute complex field surveying operations for a variety of municipal, private development, and public works projects. My role bridges the gap between raw field data collection and high-level project management, ensuring accuracy and efficiency from the ground up. Key Responsibilities & Impact: Team Leadership: Direct daily field operations, managing crew safety and ensuring all project specifications are met with high precision. Technical Execution: Utilize advanced GNSS, Robotic Total Stations, and digital leveling to perform boundary, topographic, and control surveys. Data Integrity: Conduct rigorous QA/QC on field notes and raw data before transitioning files to the office for final mapping. Client Relations: Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for contractors and clients, ensuring clear communication regarding project timelines and site conditions. Professional Growth: Currently finalizing requirements for the Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) certification to expand my role into legal research and project design.
