I am an experimental physicist at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. I earned my Ph.D. in 1998 from the University of Konstanz. Since 2004 I am a professor at Fribourg University. As a visiting scholar, I've been to institutions such as Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (2001), UC Los Angeles (2008-09), the University of Queensland (2014), the Donostia Intl. Physics Center (2019), New York University (2019-2020), the University of Bordeaux (2021) and currently the University of Miami (2025). My research focuses on the optics of complex systems, light scattering, diffuse light propagation, super-resolution microscopy applied to soft materials, dynamics of colloidal systems, aggregation, phase behavior, and fabrication of soft materials. From 2011 to 2019, I served on the Swiss National Research Council. I co-founded LS Instruments AG in Fribourg. Additionally, I'm a founding member of the Swiss National Centre of Competence in Research "Bioinspired Materials" in Fribourg, and served on the Centre's Executive Board from 2014 to 2022.
