During my year-long industry placement at Sellafield, I honed a diverse set of skills crucial to my career in civil engineering. This experience allowed me to enhance my analytical, problem-solving, and research skills while fostering effective communication, presentation, and teamwork abilities. I also developed expertise in task delegation and coordination. Throughout the placement, I was involved in a wide range of engineering tasks, including the meticulous calculation checks of structural and nonstructural elements in compliance with Eurocodes and British standards. My contributions extended to assisting in the design process of the Whitehaven Sea Cadets building, as well as volunteering to guide work experience students in engineering activities. A significant part of my role included organizing and coordinating concrete testing for chlorides and carbonation assessments, contributing to asset maintenance. Additionally, I conducted research on innovative corrosion monitoring technologies in reinforced concrete structures, advocating their adoption across the site to empower engineers with proactive maintenance strategies. One of my notable achievements during the placement was creating a blueprint for a corroded non-structural component, delivering an updated design for improved functionality and longevity. My time at Sellafield was transformative, deepening my understanding of civil engineering and equipping me with invaluable skills for future endeavours in the field
