Since I was a child I like to discover new things and this has led me to several questions, which always make me search for in-depth information as in a newspaper article, book, or blog, is a characteristic of a curious nature. I am always the one who takes first-hand information from my friends and family. My curiosity led me to a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil) and a Double Master in Sciences at Laval Univeristy (Canada) and Bordeaux University (France) Since the beginning of my education, I have always been motivated to study and research topics that I really love. My greatest wish is to be able to help people through my research. I am currently working on the discovery of the immunogenic potential of dietary postbiotics. In order to develop new gnotobiotic diets, such as use diets that can reduce the risk of developing cardiometabolic diseases. • Executed the processing and quantitative analysis of biological matrices (e.g., plasma, serum) using ligand binding assay techniques such as ELISA, ECL (MSD), and other immunoassay platforms. • Operated and maintained analytical instrumentation (e.g., plate readers, automated washers) and associated software to initiate, monitor, and document analysis runs. • Interpreted assay data, supported troubleshooting activities, and collaborated with senior analysts to resolve bioanalytical challenges in line with regulatory requirements. • Accurately documented sample analysis activities and contributed to the review and verification of analytical documentation in compliance with GLP/GCLP standards. • Supported laboratory maintenance by managing chemical and biological waste disposal and ensuring the cleanliness and readiness of analytical equipment. • Performed routine support tasks to assist laboratory operations, including reagent preparation, inventory control, and equipment calibration. • Ensured all work was conducted in alignment with internal SOPs, corporate policies, and quality standards, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the LBA laboratory.
I am mentor of the Brasa Mentorship Program for Gradute schools abroad, which is described as a comprehensive mentoring program to help young Brazilians who wish to pursue graduate studies abroad. This mentoring program offers assistance to Brazilian students with mentors who are studying (or have studied) abroad and complete step-by-step guides for a successful application. In addition, mentees have access to the BRASA network, made up of more than 9,000 students spread across the Americas, Europe and Asia. Since the program began in 2015, more than 540 mentoring pairs have been formed and in the last cycle alone, we had 128 acceptances at 83 of the best universities in the world!
BRASA is the biggest networking organization for Brazilians studying abroad. Their mission is to empower the next generation of Brazilian leaders, providing them with professional and personal development opportunities. As director of membership, I'm responsible for: - Identify problems with the BRASA network and develop macro strategies to solve them; - Filter initiatives raised by other BRASA teams that make sense to achieve long-term goals; - Ensure that the team structure is optimizing the efforts of Managers and Analysts - Create institutional emails for new BLs (BRASA's chapters) members; - Collaborate with Directors/Managers/Analysts from other teams to develop macro project ideas and solutions; - Delegate more "operational" tasks to managers in order to complete initiatives in an effective manner - Develop a calendar of activities for the year, taking into account all other BRASA activities;
Responsible for creating training initiatives (short duration or workshop) for the network. Furthermore, I was for Publica, an initiative with the aim of promoting scientific dissemination through videos on Youtube.
The iGEM Competition is an annual, worldwide synthetic biology event aimed at undergraduate university students, as well as high school and graduate students. The iGEM Competition gives students the opportunity to push the boundaries of synthetic biology by tackling everyday issues facing the world. Multidisciplinary teams work together to design, build, test, and measure a system of their own design using interchangeable biological parts and standard molecular biology techniques. Research Internship at A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs (ID Labs) in the Pathogen Immunobiology Lab. - Supervision: Angeline Rouers, PhD - PI: Laurent Rénia, PhD • Involved in projects related to B cell (plamasblast and Antigen-presenting cells) and humoral immune response against mosquito antigens. • Scientific project on infectious diseases; • Development of vaccines against Sars-CoV-2, Zika virus, and Dengue virus; • Processing of clinical study samples conducted in Thailand; • Writing of laboratory and research protocols (SOPs/SOPs) in a laboratory notebook; • Techniques used: lymphocyte cell culture, multiparametric flow cytometry (FACSymphony™ A5), ELISpot, ELISA (sandwich), RT-qPCR; • Responsible for data collection, verification, entry, and analysis (Excel, FlowJo, GraphPad Prism, R). https://www.a-star.edu.sg/idlabs
Graduate Research Internship at Sorbonne Université (Harry Sokol's Lab / Microbiote, Gut and Inflammation Team - Saint Antoine Research Center) as a part of the double degree studies between Canada and France. • Conducted a scientific project in the field of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases; • Used multiparametric flow cytometry to visualize: immunophenotyping, cell death/apoptosis (Annexin-V), immunometabolism (Mitotrackers Deep Red and Green), ROS production (DCFDA and MitoSOX), and used beads to visualize phagocytosis (multiplex). • Wrote protocols, analyzed data statistically, and prepared weekly presentations to plan next steps. • Prepared a scientific report, ranked first among three Université Laval students undertaking the joint-degree program. • Analyzed data obtained from laboratory experiments using data visualization and enhancement strategies (Excel, FlowJo, GraphPad Prism). https://www.crsa.fr/equipe-philippe-seksik.html
