• Conduct investigations of different scopes and complexity. • Accurately perform routine mathematical computations, choosing appropriate mathematical technique to determine amount of back wage liability. • Review available file materials pertinent to cases assigned, perform necessary research, and seek necessary guidance to become familiar with all aspects of the case. • Demonstrated the ability to understand, interpret, and apply written material much of which is technical or legal in nature. • Gather and analyze facts obtained, identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives and make recommendations regarding the nature and extent of any violations that exist. • Negotiate for compliance and payment of back wages due when authorized or participate in such negotiations with the supervisor. • Prepare case investigation file including written narrative reports and electronic forms for submission to the supervisor or higher-level officials. • Regular and recurring visits to industrial, commercial, agricultural, construction and other business establishments or public institutions.
• Receive incoming complaints and evaluate them to determine if the conditions described are within the Division's jurisdiction and whether probable violations exist. As appropriate, and based on the complaint, contact other parties to determine validity of complaint; take detailed complaint statements addressing coverage and exemption issues and thoroughly address the alleged violation. • Assist with the examination of government contracts, shipping, purchase, financial, and other records to determine coverage of the firms under investigation. Interview employees in person, by telephone or by mail. Prepare and assemble various file exhibits including back wage summaries, receipt forms, installment plans, statute of limitations waiver agreements, mail interview questionnaires, child labor and MPSA violation notices and related penalty assessment forms and oversee other back wage processes as assigned. • At times, transcribe selected time and payroll records to identify violations in pay and employment practices. Under the general direction of the Investigator help them make back wage, penalty, and liquidated damages computations. Apply accounting procedures necessary for monitoring and handling back wage payments. • Assist the District Director and/or Assistant District Director with administrative reports, back wage, liquidated damages and civil money penalty processes and in reviewing case files for completeness. • Prepare correspondence and materials related to the case files in order to ensure their proper conclusion. • If needed, accompany and assist Investigators when conducting investigations. Particularly, those involving large establishments or where violations are complex and widespread in nature. • Process conciliations as assigned in a timely and effective manner. • Other duties as assigned
