Florian Kummer is Managing Director for the Latin American markets at Deutsche Rück. He has over 25 years of experience in the reinsurance industry, many of them in senior underwriting management positions. An economist and political scientist by training, he has intimate knowledge of the region and of Latin American culture, having lived and worked in Mexico City, Madrid, São Paulo and Miami, among other places. Until 2020, he was Swiss Re Head of the Reinsurance Property & Casualty Underwriting Hub for Latin America. He was responsible for leading the various Underwriting teams serving Latin America region, as well as actively participating in the planning and execution of Swiss Re's High Growth Market strategy.
At Liberty Florian played a pivotal role in establishing a solid presence in Brazil – following the liberalization of the reinsurance market – Colombia, as well as the rest of the Andean region. In Liberty's Madrid offices, Florian led a team of underwriters, actuaries and administrative staff responsible for building a complementary book of local treaty business from Latin America, Spain and Portugal from 2007 to 2009.
