As a Portfolio Director at IDEO, Florian typically works with several design teams at any given time and talks with past, present and future clients about big topics, challenges and possible approaches, primarily with health care and B2B clients. Since joining IDEO, he has helped design teams and clients consistently challenge the more traditional views of innovation by identifying new opportunities through an improved understanding of user desires, stakeholder needs and emerging technologies. He loves having the chance to make a direct impact on people’s lives, whether this involves working with companies to realign or enhance a product that is already on offer, or designing an entirely new human-centric product. As project lead, Florian helps guide the entire innovation process, from conception to implementation, always motivated by the desire to bring effective products and services to market. Prior to IDEO, Florian worked as an industrial designer with the Mannheim-based design firm, Fabian Industrie Design, designers of many LAMY pens. He studied industrial and product design at the Braunschweig University of Art and the University of East London. He holds a number of patents and patent-pending designs, including suspensions for wheeled transport devices, adaptable luggage and an electronic pain diary. For Florian, life is about balance and he enjoys offsetting large, strategic projects with more hands-on work, like jewelry, furniture or toy-making. He is also a skilled viola player, and plays regularly with the Abaco Symphony Orchestra.
In global collaboration within IDEO, Florian works to develop products, services, portfolios and integrated offers for clients in the medical technology and pharma world.
