I am honoured to have been elected as Director of Events for Women in Law Edinburgh. In this role I will plan and organize various event, social, academic, and professional to promote community building amongst the women in our Faculty and to provide meaningful opportunities for women to thrive in the legal field.
As part of my role as Director of Events for Women in Law, today Abbie Skea and I organized a presentation and QandA session with Ms. Katy Macfarlane Senior Lecturer in Child and Family Law, and Dr. Susanna Macdonald-Mulvihill Early Career Fellow in Private Law, two inspirational and highly accomplished women in the Edinburgh University Law School. They shared their insight on building a career as a woman in law, encouraging everyone to pursue their career while highlighting the challenges women are faced with and how they have overcome them. Thank you to Ms MacFarlane and Dr. Macdonad-Mulvihill for your time and contributions and to everyone who attended.
As director for moot court competitions of the European Law Student Association (ELSA) Edinburgh, I am responsible for supporting organization of moot court competitions by selecting teams and coordinating practice sessions by collaborating with the director for training to provide quality training for moot court competitors, and managing the overall coordination for moot court competition the University of Edinburgh competes in by communicating with ELSA UK, other partners, and universities.
I am honoured to have been the Team Captain for the University of Edinburgh's team at the 14th Helga Pedersen Moot Court Competition (HPMCC). The HPMCC is the largest human rights moot court competition in Europe inviting ELSA universities from 43 countries across Europe. From September until February, worked a fictional human rights case about the use of AI in criminal proceedings, working extensively with the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR) arguing both sides of the case, the Applicant and Respondent. From the start, this was a research heavy project studying a vast amount of ECHR case law, the articles of the convention, learning how to formally draft written submissions and prepare oral pleadings. Under the guidance of our amazing coach, Maria-Ruxandra Costea, we conducted independent research, met at weekly meetings and prepared our arguments. In January we submitted 2 written submissions, 30 pages per side. Then, we worked on our oral pleadings, presenting arguments concisely as to meet the time limit, answering judges questions, and constructing rebuttals and sur-rebuttals. From February 23-25 we went to the University of Birmingham for the regional round of moots. As team captain, I presented the team introduction, pled alongside my co-council Hollie Howland for the Applicant, and took the rebuttals. My other two co-councils Melanie Walter and Shoug Khozestani then pled for the Respondent. Through this experience I developed by oral advocacy skills, deepened my knowledge of the ECHR and case law and was able to answer questions from the judges and prepare rebuttals on the spot. It was an amazing experience, one simulating a court room. Through collaborating with my coach and team, mooting against the other universities and taking the judgesfeedback, I am very inspired to continue my learning and growth in mooting.
I am super excited to announce that for the 2025/26 academic year at the University of Edinburgh, I will be taking on the role of Co-President of the Edinburgh University North American Society (EUNAS).
I attended an insight evening at the University of Edinburgh, led by Clifford Chance law firm, learning the firm's specialty sectors, how they operate in such a global nature, and useful advice regarding applications for their opportunities.
I am delighted to have been accepted to attend a dinner with Cleary Gottleib on October 16th. This amazing evening of networking, learning from senior associates and trainees, and becoming more familiar with the work and culture at Cleary Gottlieb was a wonderful experience which I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to attend.
