Hi! My name is Fiona Clark and I am a dedicated and motivated professional with a strong desire to secure a rewarding research position with a reputable organization. Amongst other things, I’m currently pursuing a BS in Biology from UNCC, I’m participating in an undergraduate research project at the Reitzel Laboratory, and I worked with the Gaston County Health Department performing field evaluations in support of a comprehensive water testing initiative. In addition, I’ve been consistently recognized for my outstanding contributions and commended for my organization, efficiency, priority management, and communication skills.
In my role as a research associate, I have gained hands-on experience with a variety of laboratory techniques, particularly in the fields of molecular biology and immunohistochemistry. I performed immunostaining and confocal imaging, providing critical insights into cellular structures and protein expression. I also became proficient in In Situ Hybridization (ISH) protocols, ensuring precise localization of RNA targets in tissue samples. I contributed to several molecular biology projects, utilizing PCR and gel electrophoresis to amplify and analyze DNA samples. My responsibilities also included subcloning, where I successfully isolated and inserted DNA fragments into vectors for further analysis. Additionally, I managed the ordering and organization of laboratory supplies, ensuring that all necessary materials were stocked and ready for ongoing experiments. My role extended to managing frog and mouse colonies, overseeing their care and breeding to ensure a consistent supply of model organisms for experiments.
Participating in immunological research with non-human primates infected with SHIV/HIV/SIV, malaria, and other specific pathogens. Assisting with procedures including but not limited to phlebotomy, SQ and IV drug administration, intubation, preparing for surgery, sedation, and anesthesia monitoring. As well as performing lab duties which include preparing drugs for administration, managing emergency boxes, scheduling multiple projects, sterilization of instruments for future surgeries, maintaining lab freezers, preparing and processing samples for analysis, and communicating with multiple departments to fulfill project needs.
Participating in undergraduate research project which includes building phylum trees based around genetics and researching Nematostella vectensis through the use of demethylation reagents. Oversee DNA extraction and quantify demethylation that occurs within the genome. Make keep observations and maintain accurate logs and records.
Participated in a comprehensive water testing initiative and performed field evaluations. Tested and analyzed well water for inorganic and bacterial contaminants. Collected, prepared, and sent samples to state or regional laboratories for testing. Worked collaboratively with cross-functional team members to hone research skills.
