Cypriot Filep Motwary was born in 1977. Since 2018, he is the Editor-at-Large of Vogue Greece. He served as the Editor-at-Large of Dapper Dan Magazine from 2010 until May 2023. Motwary has interviewed a stellar lineup of individuals from the arts and fashion fields: Shirin Neshat, Thomas Houseago, Gabriel Orozco, Berlinde De Bruyckere, Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri, Yohji Yamamoto, Rick Owens, Alexander McQueen, Viktor + Rolf [...] He has curated several exhibitions, including SYNERGY: Art into Fashion presented at the A. G. Leventis Gallery in Nicosia(14.04 to 31.08.2023), “Haute-à-Porter” at the Modemuseum of Hasselt (BE) in 2016. He is the author of the best-selling publication bearing the same title (Lannoo). For Modemuseum Hasselt’s exhibition titled ACROSS JAPAN, Motwary did the selection of participant garments and artwork, the preparation and research along with the visuals presented within. The exhibition opened on 4 March 2017. In 2019 he released his second publication titled “Theorem[a]: The Body, Emotion + Politics in Fashion” (Skira) as a collaboration between Motwary and Polimoda featuring his interviews with Hussein Chalayan, Jean Paul Gaultier, Pamela Golbin, Iris van Herpen, Harold Koda, Michèle Lamy, Thierry-Maxime Loriot, Antonio Mancinelli, Suzy Menkes, Violeta Sanchez, Valerie Steele, Jun Takahashi, Olivier Theyskens, Viktor & Rolf. His costumes have been exhibited in Musee D’art Et D’histoire De Saint-Brieuc-Brittany.FR, Centraal Museum – Utrecht. NL, Benakis Museum Athens.GR. The Byron Museum.CY, La Gaite Lyrique.FR, Modemuseum Hasselt.BE, The Cyprus Museum (CY) He is a visiting lecturer at Polimoda University of Florence since 2016 as well as UCLan University in Cyprus. From 2011 to 2015 he collaborated closely with Hyères Festival. On November 8th, 2022, Motwary met Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing on stage at the Athens Music Hall for an intimate interview in the context of Change Makers conference organized by Vogue Greece and attended by almost 3K individuals. Two years later, in 2024 he was again on the same stage interviewing Marisa Berenson and Iris Van Herpen. From 2022 to late 2024, the Cyprus Handicraft Service (Ministry of Culture) and the Cyprus Press and Information Office (Ministry of Interior) has collaborated with Motwary on a series of films he wrote and directed under the title #craftingcyprus. The films have been presented at Révélations Biennial of Crafts, 2022 in Paris, Europeana, Leventis Museum in Nicosia, in Romania, London and Thessaloniki in Greece, in Barcelona among other places.

Haute-à-Porter: From the 2nd of April until the 11th of September 2016 Modemuseum Hasselt presents ‘Haute-à-Porter’, a concept conceived and curated by Filep Motwary, known for his costume design, journalistic activities and photography. Haute couture is synonymous with craftsmanship, luxury, extravagance and spectacle. But aren’t these typical features of contemporary prêt-à-porter? The exhibition examines this question further and researches the changing relationship and cross-fertilization between haute couture and ready to wear. Through a variety of themes and a selection of spectacular silhouettes and accessories from high-end designers and fashion houses, the exhibition highlights the significance of haute couture for contemporary fashion. Completed with photography, film, art and music, Haute-à-Porter offers a unique insight into the fashion industry of the last 30 years.
