About

I have been fortunate to collaborate with many internal, national and international researchers. This included undergraduate students and colleagues at GUST; postgraduate student and senior professors from Kuwait University, Faculty of Medicine; clinicians from Amiri, Mubarak and Maternity hospitals; colleagues at PAAET; and several international collaborators from USA, Germany, Australia, Canada and UK. The impact of my research work in osteoporosis has led to collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and University of Sheffield, launching the FRAX tool (Fracture Risk Assessment Tool) specific for Kuwait for the first time, which further has been used by doctors in Kuwait hospitals and clinics to evaluate fracture risk of patients. This was further supplemented by collaboration with the same teams as well as clinicians from Kuwait Osteoporosis Society, Endocrinology & Metabolism units of Al-Amiri and Mubarak Al Kabeer Hospitals, Kuwait. The FRAX® model was calibrated for Kuwait, and the FRAX Based Kuwait Osteoporosis Guidelines for the assessment and treatment of patients were updated in 2018 accordingly. Recently, these findings are used to develop a protocol for the diagnosis and management of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. In the field of cytokines, we introduced a user-friendly statistical tool that can provide multivariate analysis to aid researchers in quantitative analysis of cytokine datasets. The online tool is called CytokineExplore and can be accessed free of charge. We further reported multivariate analysis in rheumatoid arthritis, postmenopausal osteoporosis, as well as several pregnancy complications. In terms of number of citations to date, according to Google Scholar (as checked on March 1st, 2021), I have 3611 citations with an h-index of 25 and il-10 index of 34. I have a total number of 51 publications in international journals, of which 17 are after 2015. The Q-ranking of the last 17 publications is: 11-Q1, 4-Q2, 2-Q3. Among the Q1 publications are two in Scientific Reports (Nature publication), one of each in Journal of Archives of Osteoporosis, Menopause, Osteoporosis International, and American Journal of Reproductive Immunology; all of which considered to be the top journals in the respective fields. After joining GUST, I obtained a total of 9 grants with a total of 128,256 KD from different funding agencies such as KFAS, Kuwait University as well as GUST.
