I was awarded a Gurdon summer studentship from the British Society for Developmental Biology (BSDB). I designed this project independently focusing on the biochemical characterisation of NF-κB in embryonic stem cells with Dr David Turner's lab group as part of the University of Liverpool. This allowed me to enhance my technical skills in western blotting, q-PCR, Co-Immunoprecipitation and data analysis, and provided me with the opportunity to expand on my team-working and collaborative skills.
Aided Professor Fernig in biochemical research of ExoU protein from the bacteria pseudomonas. Within this I purified proteins of ExoU to use against compounds provided by LifeArch, so as to determine their effectiveness. The compounds were tested as therapeutics on retina epithelial cells.
Aided Prof Trish Murray’s team in Mesenchymal stem cell research surrounding early brain trauma in babies and the use on nanoparticals in vivo.
