Mentors are responsible for sharing my own experiences with a new incoming first year student. I use my experience as a first-generation student at Cornell to answer questions, give advice and share information regarding the scholarship, classes and social activities. I am responsible for having meetings with my mentees through the semester.
As a teacher assistant I held office hours going over the course homework and concepts taught in the class by directly interacting with students and answering their questions and concerns. I was also helped proctor the exams of throughout the semester.
As a Learning assistant, I was responsible helping students grasp and improve their knowledge of the microbody concepts taught in class. This was done by holding weekly review sessions based on the lectures, interacting with students to clarify answer individual questions related to concepts, the class and how to improve study habits. I helped make worksheets and questions for students to use as study material. Lastly, during the midterm and final exam season, I helped host the reviews sessions, encompassing all the lectures necessary for the exam
Increases student engagement and worked to improve the student experience for Kessler Scholars at Cornell University through the use of student feedback. Planned and help host workshops relevant to students based on individual student feedback. Helped set up a framework for community engagement partnership with a local Ithaca organization.
Throughout this internship, I was tasked with helping improve the peer to peer review and feedback process between physicians as well as organize the previous documents. I was also tasked with helping improve the reporting of patient problems by looking at the patients progress report and joining on rounds to ensure all problems (both physical and social related) are found in the patients progress report. Throughout my time there, I was able to gain a greater insight and improve my knowledge by joining in on rounds with physicians, nurses and residents. I was able to join the residents during their teach ins, learning about neurology, pulmonary, cardiac, wounds, etc. I attended workshops that expanded upon my knowledge of a hospital environment (related to patient care) as well as how different issues are approached by LaRabida.
High Jump is a pre-high school program for high achieving middle school students in public schools. Responsible for assisting teachers as well as looking over the students. Helped teachers with learning materials, taking attendance, staying on track with the schedule. Worked with students directly by helping students individually and in group activities. Worked alongside other teacher assistants to facilitate special activities and keep track of students.
