Curriculum Vitae Education B. S. Biology/Chemistry, Baker University, Baldwin City, Kansas M.B.A., Kansas University, Lawrence, Kansas Upon graduation from Kansas University, Skip joined the Real Estate & Industrial Development Department of the Santa Fe Railway Company in Topeka, Kansas. Skip retired from BNSF Railway Company (formed by the merger of the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe in 1995) after 41 years of service, where he had held responsibility for both the Real Estate and Industrial Development Departments of both companies. During this period, Skip initiated several strategic, rail-centric multimodal transportation development projects. These include the UPS Super Hub at Willow Springs, Illinois; Alliance Consolidated Transportation Center at Alliance, Texas; BNSF’s Logistics Park-Chicago multimodal complex located at the former Joliet Arsenal near Joliet, Illinois; and Logistics Park-Kansas City, among others. Prior to his retirement from BNSF, Skip served as the Project Lead for several of BNSF’s major customer projects, including what would have been the largest bulk export facility and crude-by-rail terminals in North America, respectively. His early efforts on intermodal strategies for industrial development are considered the seminal work in what is now widely accepted as the nation’s Intermodal Hub Co-Location real estate development strategy. Skip also led the development of BNSF’s first Logistics Center (Logistics Center-Fontana) and was deeply involved in a legal case involving rail to truck transloading that was ultimately decided favorably by the U.S. Supreme Court. Skip has served as Chairman of NAIOP’s Research Foundation and as President of the American Railway Development Association as well as the Associate Chair of the former International Development Research Council (IDRC), now known as CoreNet Global. In addition, Skip was granted the “Master Professional” designation by IDRC, which was limited to only 5% of the total membership. He attended the Economic Development Institute (EDI) in Norman, Oklahoma in 1978-1980, where his EDI Thesis “The Private Capital Investment Decision-Making Process, An Analytical Approach to Industrial Development”, was awarded the “Outstanding Thesis Award” by the Midwest Economic Development Council. Skip serves as an Advisor for two international expert networks on rail logistics and development issues. Skip is presently Principal of Skip Kalb Strategies, LLC involved in consulting work on rail-oriented developments and other logistics projects.
