I'm a bioinformatician and space microbiologist with an M.S. from Texas State University, where my research centered on microbial corrosion aboard the ISS using AI-driven image analysis, spaceflight genomics, and multiplex qPCR. My work has contributed to NASA missions across CRS-21, CRS-29, and CRS-32, and I contributed firmware and software to the PROVES Kit CubeSat, with code that flew on the NG-24 Cygnus mission. I've also built a JWST/MIRI reduction pipeline to identify water vapor signatures in protoplanetary disks, and I've been applying machine learning to scientific problems since before ChatGPT was released. The space field keeps pulling me in because the problems are genuinely hard, deeply interdisciplinary, and the stakes couldn't be higher. Outside the lab, I work to make AI and data science more accessible through my podcast, Brainwaves Decoded, and mentorship programs for students at all levels.
• Built a 4 TB, 100,000+-image AI-ready SEM corpus from ISS stainless steel coupons (CRS-21/29), using an automated MAPS 3.26 grid protocol (12×10×10 mosaics at 3,000×) representing 1,000+ microscope hours, the first FAIR-compliant, largest spaceflight MIC image dataset. • Developed a UNet/SimSiam segmentation pipeline for automated MIC pit detection; found differences in microgravity corrosion vs. ground controls, AgF at 400 ppb fails to prevent recolonization over 117 days, and alloy batch is a greater MIC driver than disinfectant choice.
