I am an artist, design educator and researcher involved in theoretical and practice-based investigation. In 2015 I co-founded CritTeam with Dr. Miguel Jaime. CritTeam is an art-research group that explores connections of art, design, and architecture with cultural conventions, questioning common notions of tradition, ornament, and identity. CritTeam work’s is rooted in the practice of digital and traditional media such as photography, photo collage and drawing which we expand to include theoretical writings, installations and design proposals. Our practice explores the reflective nature of post avant-garde art and architecture and the discourses of memory. The work involves the problematic relationship between Modernism and ornament challenging the art historical hierarchies between modernist abstraction and non-western ornamental art. Architecture and urban photography is a central aspect of our artistic research. I hold a PhD in architectural design and have been educator and researcher in aesthetics and contemporary art in universities of Europe, America and Middle East. CritTeam’s work has been published and exhibited at various institutions in Europe and the Middle East such as the Sharjah Art Foundation, the University of Edinburg, the XIV Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (Santander 2018), The 8th Biennial of Contemporary Textile Art WTA at Museo del Traje (Madrid 2019), FAD Art Awards 2021 at Barcelona Design Museum, among others.

CritTeam is an art-design research group formed by Dr. Eugenia Lopez Reus and Dr. Miguel Jaime. The name of the group reflects the collective work of the “team” and the reflective practice, “crit”, that informs their production. CritTeam balances scientific modes of enquire and artistic-pragmatic approach to complex cultural problems. Visual autonomy is a basic vindication on their work and this commitment explains why visual aspects are essential on their research, even in conventional academic work. Urban photography is a central aspect of their current research, in which they use the city and its urban fabric as their workspace. Their practice explores connections of art and design with urban context, heritage, identity, public space, perception and representation through photography, design proposals and theoretical writing. The work is an homage to Learning from Las Vegas, the design studio and book by Robert Ventury and Denise Scott Brown in the 1970s.
