Knoxville, Tennessee, United States
I am a senior currently enrolled in the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and working towards obtaining my business degree in Marketing with a concentration in Entrepreneurship. Throughout my life I have always strived to do the best I can whether in school or the workplace. Some of my strengths include being a futuristic and deliberative thinker because I am serious about the decisions I make while always trying to anticipate any obstacles. When I was a junior in high school I was given the opportunity to attend middle college courses at Roane State Community College alongside my high school courses and earned an associate of science degree while graduating high school. Nowadays I’m taking courses at UTK whilst working as a package handler at UPS where my job is to read zip codes and sort them accordingly to the correct trucks to be loaded and shipped off. Some of my other strengths include being a restorative and analytical thinker because I’m good at figuring out what is wrong in situations and learning the reasons why. I was chosen to run the baggage return at my workplace because I take control of the situation and am not afraid to make decisions. Handling the baggage return is the hardest part of the sort line and most people struggle with the amount of packages. My supervisors consistently give me praise for being a dedicated worker and I'm hoping to join them as a fellow supervisor in the near future. I find myself gaining motivation from seeing myself succeed and seeing the value in something that somebody else does not see. I work hard simply because I want to when I see possible future benefits. Some aspects of business that spark my interest are understanding the different kinds of marketing and their uses as well as the idea, that one mans trash can be another mans treasure. I love this saying because something can have no value to one person but be worth a fortune to another. My participation in the first year of middle college students at Roane State Community College has fast tracked me and my mindset allowing me to pursue a career in marketing/sales where I can gain knowledge and get ahead. For example, most of my friends are just now entering college and I only have one more year to obtain my bachelors degree at 19 years old. My career goal after college is to move to Hilo, Hawaii and open a business catering to the island's natives as-well as the millions of tourists that visit year round.
Promoted to management and joined a team of around 20 supervisors. I started in the inbound running sort aisle where I worked before. I coordinated my team of 10 sorters and 10 unloaders on a daily basis to unload and distribute roughly 100,000 packages daily where they needed to go. I've also managed an outbound belt with a team of 5 receiving the flow and loading it onto trailers, making sure they are sealed correctly, loaded efficiently, and safely. Lastly, I have ran an Air Gateway Hub operation with a team of 5 following all LLAR, TSA, and TAA compliance which handled all next day air packages going onto airplanes.
My day to day job at UPS consists of sorting packages coming from my truck unloader to one of ten conveyor belts based on the zip code of the package. I move anywhere from one thousand to two and a half thousand packages every hour and have a good understanding as to how the whole facility functions. I have applied for supervisor and am hoping to gain that role in the near future.
Worked as a team of five on a private contract to build a three story house from the ground up.
