Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Please allow me to introduce myself. I am a hardworking and accomplished individual looking for work in the healthcare industry as an in home caregiver companion in the south west area of Calgary. My most recent employer is CBI Home Care with whom I worked in a casual role providing in home care in the south west area of Calgary. Sadly, I was forced to take a leave of absence in Feb of 2024 so that I could take care of my wife who was battling a late stage cancer. My wife has since passed away and after taking time to grieve and settle her estate, I am now ready to get back to the work I love and with a greater passion, sympathy and empathy than ever before. Unfortunately, despite the fact that I enjoyed working for CBI, I was forced to resign my position as I am not interested in working in the north of Calgary and hoping to remain working in the south west area of Calgary. I have had a long and varied work life with a large part of the past 20 years working as a systems analyst & software developer. The exception is when I took a professional sabbatical to train for and begin working as an Alberta Certified Healthcare Aide. In May 2015, I enrolled in an AB Healthcare Aide Certification program at the Academy of Learning College, graduating at the top of my class. Soon afterward I was able to secure employment in casual roles with the Alzheimer Society of Calgary as an activities program facilitator and with Intercare Group Inc. as a personal caregiver in one of their long-term care facilities (including significant time in the dementia unit). I was also able to work privately in a companionship role with an individual suffering from Alzheimer's disease. The challenges I faced during the time I spent caring for my wife at home through to her last day has provided me with a greater insight into the trials and heartache faced and experienced by long term and end of life care recipients, their primary caregiver and families. Caring about others, hard-working, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a desire to deliver high-quality care are just some of my professional qualities. The unique combination of these professional qualities with my life and work experience makes me an excellent fit for any healthcare companion position. I look forward to the opportunity of speaking with you to discuss how my skills and experience fit your needs. Sincerely, Russell Harrison HCA
