My research involved finding a link between the immune system and its effect on epigenetic modulators HDACs, in regards to regeneration of the spinal cord. Specifically, the research studied the effect of HDACs on progenitor cells that give rise to regenerated motor neurons. As a Master’s student, I had the opportunity to learn and apply techniques such as PCR, qPCR, FACS, as well as, the use of intracellular markers under confocal microscopy. I also had the opportunity to learn how lab facilities operate in more depth, especially in regards to zebrafish husbandry.
Helped design, organize and develop an experiment, which involved phyllosphere from different locations to analyze toxins and growth of microbes both qualitative and quantitatively.
Responsibilities include filing and labeling and undergoing all lab procedures for diabetes research named QUDOS. Amongst other responsibilities, I performed DNA extraction, both manual and automated.
