I specialize in providing out-of-the box consultation for systems design optimization. My firm, Practical Solution, offers clients design improvements for their technical products and processes. Hands-on, practical experience with construction and mechanical engineering enables my real-world approach to physical engineering problems. For over 25 years, I have offered comprehensive, holistic solutions that incorporate all aspects of systems design, including predicting and pinpointing potential shortcomings or weaknesses. NO PREMIUM LINKEDIN! My approach involves: • Increasing system efficiency by rethinking materials, stress effects, weaknesses, etc. • Enhancing profitability through minor adjustments to existing systems • Cost-benefit analysis of proposed changes • Efficient resource allocation (energy, human resources, materials) • Assessment of cause and effect: interpreting symptoms to identify the true source of a problem in order to develop the most logical solution • Imaginative thinking beyond theory: dissecting the design to understand how things are actually working in practice I provide my clients with thorough explanations and extensive documentation (e.g. component and system specifications, material needs) in order to assist them in enhancing their current designs. I also rely on computer aided design (CAD) tools to offer my clients resources that are reliable, efficient and easy to integrate into most platforms. I started my own firm in product and process development. I want to help customers in improving their design of technical products. On my website (www.practicalsolution.eu/business) you can see many examples. I am an engineer, inventor and problem solver for technical matters. I see problems and find solutions other clever people overlook. Why? Because I am very practical too and still use my farmer instincts and not a computer program. Let me look at a drawing and I see problems that will come out when the product is used. I found a solution for a step over tool to bring maintenance people on steady offshore locations like windmills or to bring people on big ships with a small ship. A catamaran of 26 meter length can take a significant wave height of 2.5 meter comparable with an Ampelmann system on a 70 meter long ship. This means much cheaper maintenance on offshore constructions. Also a free rotating system was invented for gangways. Gangways can be designed lighter. Sliding in and out will go more smoothly due to this mechanism. Combined pitch, roll and jaw angles of 45 degrees are possible. TNO did a calculation for a windfield of 95 turbines of 8 MW. Yearly savings would be around 3 to 4 milj. euro. A propulsion system was invented of which the expert of MARIN is very enthousiastic. I invented a patentable wave and tidal energy device based on known appliances. A big engineering bureau is now working out my idea of reducing the water spill in locks. This is done by placing strong inflatable gummi bags in the locks. You can place them on the walls and floor of the lock. This can reduce the water quantity needed by at least 30%. Also was concluded why the construction to support the Anne Frank tree did not help to support this tree. This construction was designed in a total wrong way and weakend the surviving mechanisme of the tree. The tree broke down at slow windspeed though this tree has overcome storms. Optimising kiln constructions in which stainless steel plates get their heat treatment to improve material quality. This is done by leading coils through the kiln at 1150 Degree Celsius. After the kiln section the plate is cooled down with air flowing through nozzles. After that the plate is further cooled with a water spray. Due to heating all material imperfections go to the surface of the plate. These layers are removed by a pulling force. Spraying water over the plate cools it down when leaving the killn. This moist made it impossible to add the right pulling force on the plate (slip). A blow off system was needed to remove the moist. Due to a wrong design the client needed to reduce the speed. Changing the design of the blow off solved the problem and made it 2.5 times cheaper to produce. A company did calculations on a carroussel support construction with SolidWorks. Some tension concentrations could be solved by lowering the plate thickness. This optimisation would take about 4 days drawing time. Just by lowering the Emodulus of the plate and using plate stiffenss formula's drawing times were reduced to just 0.5 a day. More on www,practicalsolution.eu/business
Make a prototype of a propulsion system my boss found out. I invented a new flexible propulsion system for ships. Marin told me that this was a new concept with high potential. The project manager at Marin (The Netherlands Wageningen) was very enthousiastic and told me that a flexible system can have a 36% higher effecticiency compared to a stiff system. This system is as far as I can assume even more then 15% more effective compared to the O foil which is now in 2015 placed on the first ship for testing.
Calculating corrugated sheets and calculating cleats and other constructions in concrete buildings. Solving problems with clients. Other improvements. With TNO Delft this company was in cooperation for improving blast walls. TNO showed some details for connecting blast walls to the floors of a ship or oil platform. I soon found a new connection detail for this connection. This connection was minimal 4 times cheaper but also forces in critical welds reduced with 80%. I also looked at problems with gas tightness of doors this firm produces. Off Shore doors need to be gastight so crew can be safe for toxic smoke when fire occurs. Due to ARBO laws opening forces should be lower as 23 kilo. The problems came from the way the framework was made. The framework was made by bending steel plated and welding them together. Just by changing the bending angels of the frame adjusting times to make doors gastight reduced from 5 to 2 hours. I also invented a new semi active seal to make doors 1 meter watertight form both sides. With this seal a co extrusion opening forces lowered and a new customer was attracted. Client BAE systems wanted an extra FEM calculation to be done on a big bulkhead. My precessor sends a calculation report of 50 pages. After one year this customer was still unhappy. I wrote a theoretical story about energy storage in bulkheads and could convince the customer that they did not need any more calculations. This saved the company about 60.000 euros. I also find a way to line out the cladding on big buildings when the basic construction was not straight at all. This made the company more flexible upon work other had done before so work could be carried out much faster and easier.
Optimisation of the strength of connections in greenhouses. By using a screw a failure mode of a connection was impossible which made th system twice as strong. By making the connection between gutter and supports stronger the gutter could be made 20% lighter. Due to technical improvements weight reduction for a greenhouse of about 15% was possible making a huge weight saving. Due to the fact aluminum is very expensive profits could raise by 10%.
