Erica McDonald is a photographer & educator based in NYC. She founded DEVELOP Photo to provide resources for the enrichment of the photojournalism, fine art & documentary photography community. Her photography is regularly commissioned for magazines nationally & internationally & has been exhibited worldwide. Currently Erica is working as an independent photo editor for a project on the African photojournalist Priya Ramrakha.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Erica McDonald is a photographer & educator based in NYC. She founded DEVELOP Photo to provide resources for the enrichment of the photojournalism, fine art & documentary photography community. Her photography is regularly commissioned for magazines nationally & internationally & has been exhibited worldwide. Erica began working in the field of photography under the tutelage of photo dealer Joe Folberg at Vision Gallery in San Francisco. When the chance came for her to manage the gallery at The Maine Photographic Workshops she was rewarded with the opportunity to learn through the company of some of photography’s greatest image makers. Since 2010 she has taught an annual intensive documentary photography workshop through Spazio Labo' Center of Photography. In 2011 she joined the Advisory Committee for Rehabilitation Through Photography & the Editorial Committee at Photojournale. In 2012, McDonald co-curated the exhibit Uncommon Intimacy & Women in Multimedia for Arte Fiera. Erica has reviewed portfolios for PDN/PSPF & ASMP NY. In 2013 she became an Adjunct Asst Prof at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, faculty at ICP & began working as PE for a photobook on an African photojournalist. Publications include Mother Jones, Rolling Stone, The NY Times, FT Weekend Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Popular Photography, Bloomberg Businessweek, Boston Magazine, Courrier International Magazine, YES! Magazine, Runner's World Magazine, British Journal of Photography & Rhino Records. McDonald's photographs have been exhibited in NYC by PowerHouse, the Museum of the City of New York, Photoville & the Camera Club of NY. Her work has been included at FotoWeek DC & Gallery Carte Blanche, Athens Photo Festival, Head On Photo Fest, Fovea, LOOK3, Angkor Photo Festival, Bursa Photofest, Palm Springs Photo Festival, FotoGrafia Festival & SLPS. Awards & nominations include IPA/Lucies, PX3, NY Photo Awards & Magnum Cultural Foundation EPF.
