Los Angeles Metropolitan Area
As the son of an artist, I grew up immersed in art since childhood. In many ways, my art education followed the classical tradition of apprenticeships. First, my father taught me to print his landscape etchings. By the age of fifteen I had already printed editions for the Brooklyn Museum. In New York, I became one of Sol Lewitt's main assistants. I painted his murals in museums, galleries, and private homes. His influence still informs some of my own choices in art making. I later painted murals for other artists and designers in Bill Gates' home in Seattle. This work led me to visit Los Angeles and inspired me to move there. In Los Angeles, I printed etchings for the Sam Francis Estate and Jacob Samuel Editions. I then worked for several years as an art fabricator for Chris Burden. Invariably this led to my own art making and design work. I'm passionate about color and use line, composition, and even light as vehicles to explore the possibilities of color relationships. website: www.ericziemann.com
