Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States
I am a progressive policy analyst focused on state tax and budgetary policy. Since the summer of 2020, I have been working as Policy Director for We Make Minnesota—a coalition of labor and community groups organizing to raise state revenue for investment in health care, education, racial equity, sustainable environmental stewardship, and other public priorities. My work here has included research, communications, and advocacy on a wide range of state fiscal and budgetary policy issues. I am enthusiastic about the promise of broad social organizing centered on an anti-austerity message and a bold vision for social investment. In the spring of 2020, I completed my master's degree at the Goldman School of Public Policy. Prior to that, I spent four years at the Roosevelt Institute where I worked as a researcher and program manager on a number of domestic economic policy issues including taxes, labor, antitrust, and financial sector regulation. During that time I co-authored several papers on these topics and served as the primary research assistant on the Roosevelt Institute's Rewriting the Rules of the American Economy (Norton 2016). Prior to joining the Roosevelt Institute, I worked in Middle East foreign policy research and interned on the 2012 Obama campaign as well as for then-New York City Councilman Bill de Blasio. I have a B.S. in political science, magna cum laude, from the University of Colorado at Boulder. I tweet regularly, but with little notice from the wider world, at @EricHBernstein and can be reached at [email protected], especially if you are into state tax policy (there aren't enough of us!).
I manage a labor-grassroots coalition focused on state tax and budget policy.
I teach two discussion sections for Robert Reich's 800-person undergraduate course on inequality. Duties include leading class discussions, grading assignments and participation for my 50 assigned students, and formulating lesson plans.
I managed the Roosevelt Institute's antitrust and market power program, overseeing research, events, and other programmatic activities. My role entails coordinating the work of our fellows as well as authoring papers directly.
Providing research, planning, and logistics support on Inequality, Financialization, and Next American Economy projects.
Supported lead analysts on ISW's Syria team by following military developments in the Syrian civil war and tracking events in Palantir.
I blog on developments in nuclear security issues, and provide research and editorial support on ASP's nuclear fact sheets and reports.
