I am trained as a clinical and molecular virologist with expertise in influenza virus research, diagnostics, and virus discovery. I am a founding member of the Research Center for Emerging Infections and Zoonoses at the Veterinary University Hannover (Germany). I embrace the One Health concept. My strength as an independent scientist is my strong multidisciplinary research focus. I supervise postdocs, Ph.D. students, research technicians, and bachelor & master students. I am appointed as virology expert at Royal GD in Deventer (NL). Also, I am a guest scientist at the Department of Clinical Chemistry & Hematology at the University (Medical Center) Utrecht (NL) to focus on the interactions between viruses and host (immune) cells.
