My name is Emma Popkin, I recently graduated Colorado College with a Comparative Literature major and a Journalism minor. I am currently working as an Elementary School ESL teacher at Sojourner Truth Academy in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I am also pursuing a K-12 ESL teaching licensure at the University of Minnesota through the Minnesota Grow Your Own Teachers program (MNGOT).
Provide weekly interviews for prospective CC students, facilitate campus tours for students and parents, manage phone calls and walk-in visitors in the Admissions office, and complete necessary clerical work
Meet monthly with other student representatives and members of the CC Communications and Admissions Offices to review and provide feedback on material sent out to prospective and accepted students, as well as aspects of the CC website and CC communications.
Worked as a journalist intern within the El Paso Matters newsroom, conducting research and interviews for a few news articles published on the El Paso Matters website. I completed profiles of two local artists from El Paso and co-wrote an investigative piece updating the community on a high profile migrant murder case from 2022.
Supported New America’s Fellows Program through a variety of projects for the upcoming Fellows class: o Developed social media management skills by drafting Tweets highlighting the Fellows’ accomplishments o Strengthened writing abilities by drafting interview questions for the 15 new Fellows about their projects o Drafted the Fellows Program’s monthly newsletters in Campaign Monitor o Learned basic website and graphic design skills with Wagtail and Figma and gained valuable experience working in Airtable and Asana
Greeted and sat customers, managed phone calls and reservations, and assisted with table bussing and general house-keeping
