Support and develop the radiation safety program overseeing two broad scope radioactive material licenses.
Provided technical support and staff augmentation to nuclear power plants who sought compliance of their Radiological Effluent Controls and Radiological Environmental Monitoring programs with NRC regulations, radiation protection standards, code of federal regulations, and site-specific offsite dose calculation manual.
Instructed and oversaw all lab activity performed by students. Provided feedback on students’ work through office hours and graded lab reports.
Studied the anti-cancer strategy of induced apoptosis through the use of Procaspase Activating Compound-1 (PAC-1) and small molecule birinapant. Evaluated the in vitro activity of PAC-1 and birinapant on the proteins caspase-3 and XIAP and determined synergistic cell death. Validated the activity using Western Blot analysis and further evaluated the activity in cancer cell cultures.
