My name is Emma Pruett, and I am a Master of Arts in Communication student at Valdosta State University. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Communication with a focus in Organizational Communication from VSU. I currently serve as a Graduate Assistant (Teacher Assistant), a goalkeeper coach for Valdosta High School, a substitute teacher for Lowndes County Schools, and a nanny. Previously, I have worked in the retail and restaurant industries and completed a Strategic Communication Internship with Brevard Public Schools District. These experiences strengthened my adaptability, responsibility, and interpersonal communication skills. I played for the Valdosta State University women’s soccer team for four years, during which I developed strong time-management, discipline, conflict-resolution, and goal-setting skills. I am eager to continue learning, growing, and applying communication strategies in professional settings that value collaboration, leadership, and meaningful impact.

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant serving as the Instructor of at Valdosta State University, I independently teach an undergraduate course in COMM 1100 (Human Communication). In this role, I craft power point lessons, and delivered lectures and discussions that fostered critical thinking and active learning. I am responsible for grading all assignments, exams, and projects, providing detailed feedback to support student growth. Beyond instruction, I held regular office hours to mentor students and address individual learning needs, while managing all course logistics and communication through our BlazeView course shell. This position required a high level of organization, leadership, and expertise, as I effectively balanced curriculum development, classroom management, and student engagement. Through this experience, I strengthened my ability to communicate complex concepts clearly, facilitate inclusive discussions, and promote a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
As a building substitute teacher, I play a vital role in maintaining continuity in student learning by being available daily to cover classrooms as needed. I adapt quickly to different grade levels and subjects, following lesson plans while managing the classroom effectively. My responsibilities include delivering instruction, assisting students with assignments, taking attendance, and ensuring a safe and productive learning environment. I also help with various school duties, such as supervising lunch or recess and supporting staff as needed. My flexibility, strong classroom management skills, and ability to build relationships with students and staff make me a reliable part of the school community.
