Emily worked as an Associate Project Engineer at Emerson Tool Company, one of many business units of Emerson. Emerson Tool Company's products include: Emerson ceiling fans, RIDGID, Craftsman, and WORKSHOP wet/dry vacuums, ProTeam Vacuums. The Project Engineer participates in all phases of product design and development as well as being responsible for implementing design changes targeted to improve quality and reduce manufacturing cost. During her time, Emily learned how the design process functions with constant cross-functional collaboration between marketing, sales, engineering, and industrial design to transform a product idea or market research-determined need into a tangible device ready for users. She gained familiarity with how Emerson Tool proactively works with automotive companies to negotiate deals for models several years out. Emily had the opportunity to work on several projects that involved different skill sets divided mainly into three areas: design, lab research, data analysis. •Initialized Emerson Tool’s international expansion opportunity via designing and assembling in-lab IPX4 test rig according to standard, limited budget, and space confinements. •Ensured marketing claims’ validity by creating a performance and end-of-line test data analysis algorithm. •Increased accuracy of finite element analysis (FEA) used in drum-buckling examinations by programming polypropylene flexural moduli solver spreadsheet, after conducting 100+ tensile trials. •Improved lab testing standardization for vacuum airflow tests between Reynosa plant and Saint Louis lab.
