Strong background in coastal and marine science and engineering.
• Leads and facilitates development of priority ocean conservation innovations and programs. • Provide strategic and high-level technical ocean science and conservation guidance across the institution and to partners. • Builds diverse collaborations and strategic programs leading to for the next generation of ocean conservation solutions, including fostering key partnerships with academic, NGO and private sector partners. • Leads fundraising efforts from diverse sources including international development agencies, governments, foundations and individuals.
• Strategic development and global implementation of Conservation International’s Marine Climate Change Programs spanning international policy, national coastal and marine climate change programs and site specific field activities. • Global leadership of the Blue Carbon Initiative, an international partnership between CI, IUCN and IOC-UNESCO focused on carbon-based incentives for conservation and restoration in coastal “blue” carbon wetland ecosystems, including developing global vision and leading development, fundraising and implementation of initiative. • Co-chair International Blue Carbon Scientific Working Group. • Responsible for institutional policy on oceans and climate change. • Leading and supporting diverse fundraising efforts from sources including international development agencies, governments, foundations and individuals.
Scientific advisor for a diverse international marine conservation programs. Provided technical expertise and consulting on broad spectrum of ocean science and engineering to conservation field programs and partners globally including communities, governments and the tourism, oil and gas and cruise line industries.
• Coastal oceanographic research focused on internal tides in the ocean, integrated into a multidisciplinary long term field study of the coastal shelf environments on the Pacific coast of North America. • Designed and funded research program, “Long Term Characterization of the Tidal Band Internal Wave Climate on the Central California Coast”, National Science Foundation.
