French soprano Elsa Benoit is one of the most captivating young singers in front of the public today. She took the stage at Stadttheater Klagenfurt in the 2015-16 season in acclaimed performances as Tytania in Britten´sA Midsummer Night´s Dream conducted by Alexander Soddy and Giulietta in Bellini´s I Capuleti e i Montecchi under Giacomo Sagripanti. Audiences in Klagenfurt could also hear her as Micaëla in performances of Bizet´sCarmen and Despina in Mozart´s Cosí fan tutte. She had celebrated debuts at Opéra de Lille and in Reims singing the title role in the world premiere ofMarta by Austrian composer Wolfgang Mitterer. In the 2016-17 season Ms. Benoit joins the ensemble of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich where she appears in three new productions: singing Inès in Donizetti’s La Favorite, conducted by Karel Mark Chichon and directed by Amélie Niermeyer and the Shepherd Boy in Wagner’s Tannhäuser, conducted by Kirill Petrenko in a production by Romeo Castellucci. She also appears in Munich as Gretel in Humperdinck’sHänsel und Gretel conducted by Tomáš Hanus, Oscar in Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera conducted by Asher Fisch, Frasquita in Bizet’s Carmen, Najade in Richard Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, and as Tebaldo in Verdi’s Don Carlo conducted by Paolo Carignani. In the 2014-15 season, which also marked Ms. Benoit´s last year at the Opera Studio of the Bavarian State Opera, she sang Comtesse Adéle in Rossini´s Le Comte Ory in an Opera Studio production at the Cuvilliés Theater in Munich. She could also be heard singing Papagena in Mozart´sDie Zauberflöte, Amital in Mozart´s La Betulia Liberata and Isotta in Die Schweigsame Frau by Strauss at the Bavarian State Opera.
