The Wikimedia Foundation is a nonprofit that provides the essential infrastructure for free knowledge. The Foundation hosts Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia as well as many other vital community projects. As a Legal Fellow, I was part of a legal team that supported the Wikimedia movement by opposing government surveillance and censorship, defending Wikimedia communities, facilitating open policy discussions, and advocating for privacy.
Slater and Gordon is a leading Australian consumer law firm. Their mission is to give people easier access to world class legal services. As a Law Clerk and Senior Law Clerk, I worked with a small team to help injured people move on with their lives following an accident and to stand up for clients to ensure they were able to access the compensation they need and deserve. My work involved legal writing (briefs, memorandums, pleadings and statements), litigation (including briefing counsel, preparation and appearances at court), legal research in the presence of law reform and daily interaction with clients. My work at Slater and Gordon was a reminder of the vulnerability of the human condition and taught me that sometimes people need to know that you care before they care to listen to what you know.
