Working on understanding the pathogenesis of Klebsiella pneumoniae to come up with host-directed therapy!
Designed and synthesized a range of antimicrobial peptidomimetics for establishment of the structure-activity relationship against multidrug-resistant gram-positive and -negative bacteria, both alone and in conjunction with antimicrobial peptides respectively. Skills: chemical synthesis, flash column chromatography, bacteria culture, drug testing assays, hemolysis assays, fluorescence microscopy.

Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Xavier Roca Conducted my final year research project titled “Alternative Splicing in Human Myeloid Cell Differentiation and Leukemia” focusing on novel RNA-binding proteins and how their expression levels affect differentiation of myeloid cells. • Prepared and expanded plasmids using HEK293T cells for knocking down or overexpression of target RNA binding proteins. • Induced differentiation of myeloid cells down the different pathways via chemical treatments. • Performed Giemsa staining to capture morphological differences between differentiated cells. • Extracted and reverse transcribed RNA samples for analysis using quantitative PCR (qPCR). • Analyzed cell differentiation in terms of phenotypical differences (surface markers) on treated and transduced myeloid cells using flow cytometry. • Carried out functional assays including netosis, phagocytosis and ROS assays. • Conducted splicing analysis of specific genes.
Quantitative Biosciences Department Supervisor: Dr Adrian Sim Developed and optimized a novel functional-based assay using patient-derived materials for testing of future pipeline projects.
