Marketing and Communications Officer at Place2Be

About

I am currently exploring the charity sector as a Marketing and Communications Officer and is excited to develop relevant skills to lead diverse and meaningful campaigns. As an English Literature with Creative Writing Graduate from the University of East Anglia (UEA), I was also the Co-President for UEA's publishing society, EggBox, and had been committed to making publishing as accessible and inclusive as possible. I am a constant advocate for opening up creative opportunities for various marginalised communities and give them a safe space to communicate and share their life stories. I also enjoy reading and writing poetry in my spare time and have been published by EggBox and other indie publishing houses.

  • UEA Publishing Project (Norwich, England, United Kingdom · Remote)
    • Communications and Distribution assistant
      Sep 2023 - Sep 2024 · 1 yr 1 mo

I have slowly transitioned from my initial role as the Comms and marketing asisstant to focus more on customer service communications and book distribution. I am currently very hands on and efficient with processing and managing book orders coming in from various sources. I take extreme precaution when communicating with our bookseller and distributor and navigating the LightningSource database, WIX, Consonance, etc., for distribution to ensure book orders are sent out safely and accurately. I keep on top of customer enquiries about their orders and offer solutions that are beneficial to both the Project and the customer. I have been navigating the distribution side of publishing to the best of my ability in the midst of a rocky switch in book distributor and have picked up the ability to balance contacts with customers and the distributor. I have also been able to work well with my colleagues during in-person book selling events. We effectively split work between managing the payment transaction, setting up displays and restocking titles. I am now confident in utilising the payment app, Zettle, and have been able to teach my fellow colleagues how to use it as well. I am also in charge of safeguarding the payment devices and have unmonitored access to the main office to handle them.

On the administrative side, I regularly process incoming book orders and reply to email enquiries with great attention to detail. I also engage in active email exchanges with our book distributor and bookseller to remediate any customer and freight issues as they occur and offer the best solutions to all parties involved.
